Rising Hope's history

Rising Hope is a Danish charitable voluntary organisation founded in May 2013 with the aim of supporting local communities in improving the living conditions of marginalised groups in cooperation with those affected.

In 2012, Stine Andersen volunteered at a number of centers for people with drug addiction in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Here she learned how there were good treatment and aftercare options for men, while the options for women were almost non-existent. This experience was the start of Rising Hope. Since then, Rising Hope has worked closely with the women concerned to improve conditions for female drug users in Tanzania. Before, during and after treatment.

This work has been possible because Rising Hope has both collaboration and networks with female former drug users in Tanzania, who have been closely involved from the start and throughout the process. Rising Hope works from a bottom-up approach, as the belief is that the desire for change must come from those affected themselves. This approach helps to ensure the sustainability of the projects. Rising Hope strives to be close to the people affected and the projects. There is minimal distance between donors, the board of directors and the people that Rising Hope supports and collaborates with locally. This creates closeness and cohesion, which also helps to ensure the sustainability of the projects.
