2017-2018: Organisational capacity building of partner in Tanzania

Rising Hope's local partner organization, The Light of Miracle, made up of female former drug users, is the first of its kind in Tanzania. This initiative will develop the organization's capacity and thus its ability to bring about change.

Project:

The Light of Miracle - Rising Hope's local partner, made up of female former drug users - is the first of its kind in Tanzania. This initiative will develop their capacity and thus their ability to bring about incremental change.

This initiative is an extension of the 2015 project. The project team, with which Rising Hope has been working since the beginning, is now registered as an NGO in Tanzania - Dar Es Salaam. However, the NGO lacks basic organisational capacity to function as an NGO.

There are different purposes in arming The Light of Miracle.

  1. To serve as a community for all women in Tanzania who are either actively addicted, in treatment, or struggling after treatment to stay clean and create a life for themselves. By creating a gathering point for the women, they can motivate and support each other.

  2. To equip women to act as political actors who, through various initiatives, may be able to influence the agenda of addiction treatment for women in Tanzania.

  3. To become more autonomous and in the future be able to develop and implement projects independently of Rising Hope or others.

Organizational capacity building will take place through education, training and practice. Particular emphasis will be placed on learning by doing.

The topics that will be covered in the training are: Governance, Human Resources Management, Organizational Management, Financial Management, Programme Management and Organizational Sustainability.

After the training, The Light Of Miracle's organisational capacity is tested and further developed through practice in the implementation of the project "Addiction treatment for women with substance abuse in Tanzania".

Status:

This project is funded through a grant from CISU. The Light of Miracle was registered as an official NGO in 2016, and throughout 2017 Rising Hope has been fundraising for the project and making preparations. The training itself will start from 1 February 2018 and continue for 2 months, but the development of the NGO will continue.
