2015: Organizing local project group

- and the study of the political environment,

The purpose of this project is to jointly build the capacity of the local project group in Tanzania consisting of female former drug users. The capacity building will lead to the women being able to run Rising Hope's future projects in Tanzania.

Project:

The focus of the project is to establish a local project group of female former drug users in Tanzania. The first step is to build the capacity of the project group to become empowered, independent and strong, and to register as a local NGO. This will help to ensure women's rights and empowerment. The women all have a history of drug abuse and they have a desire to help other women fight drug addiction. Several of the women in the project group have worked in the Women's Hope Workshop and volunteered at various drug treatment centers in Tanzania. The purpose of building the capacity of the project group is to enable the women as a group to develop and run their own projects in the future, the first of which will be the Rising Hope project "A rehabilitation home for women with drug addiction". In parallel, the project group will conduct targeted but limited advocacy to put drug abuse on the agenda in Tanzania.

The second focus of the project is to examine the political environment in Tanzania with a view to obtaining permission to establish a rehabilitation home for women with drug addictions. Methods used include networking and meeting with relevant government institutions and potential partners.

Status:

The project team is established and organised with Noor Ntisi as local manager. The project team is ready to take on the implementation of the future project in collaboration with Rising Hope. Registration of the project group as a local NGO has been initiated.
The status of the second focus of the project, Study of the Political Environment, is that after intensive efforts in Zanzibar since June 2015, the decision has been made to establish the rehabilitation home in Dar Es Salaam and not in Zanzibar as previously planned. The project team is currently in Dar Es Salaam to hold meetings with the government there. It is expected to receive permission to start the project during July 2016.
